Social media has been at use in political campaigns for more than a decade – turning “friends” and “followers” into advocates and voters at the polls.
Recent research from the Pew Internet Center shows that nearly 70% of adults have engaged in political activity on social networks, with 25% of those people saying they have become more active in a political issue after discussing it or reading posts about it on social media.
Amazingly, a full 16% of social media users say they have changed their views about a political issue after discussing or reading posts about it on social networks.
Still, most candidates and campaign staffers either don’t take advantage of social networks or don’t use them efficiently.
But the Mt. Lebanon Democrats are going to change that.
In the Social Media for Politics training we’ll be showing candidates and staffers how to:
- Create popular social network pages on Facebook and Twitter
- Identify key influencers on social networks
- Learn What, When, and Where to post your messages
- Monitor and respond to what people say about you
- Use social networks to find volunteers
Right now, registration is by invitation only. Mt. Lebanon Democratic Committee Members have received an email with a link to the registration page. If you are an MTLDC member and have not received an email please send a note via our contact page and we’ll get you added to the list.
