A life-long resident of Mt Lebanon, Mike has been a member of the School Board for the past four years. During his tenure, he has consistently provided unique insights from his professional background. Prior to joining the School Board, Mike served over 25 years as a police officer and school resource officer, has taught college level courses and proudly raised two daughters through the Mt Lebanon School District.
He has lived in Mt Lebanon his whole life and served on the School Board for the past four years. He and his wife Katie have two daughters, one who attends Duquesne University and another who graduated from Westminster College and now attends the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. Both of their children attended Mt Lebanon schools. He was heavily involved in both his daughters’ activities throughout their time in school, specifically his daughters’ high school volleyball teams. He has seen firsthand the effects and advantages of living in a high achieving community like Mt Lebanon, and is thankful for the opportunity he has to live, work and serve here.
As a School Board Director, Mike has and will continue to provide insights from a background that is quite unique to the body. As a police officer in this community as well as a college level teacher, he brings a combination of experience that none of the other directors or candidates can match. From 2006-2011, as a member of the Mt Lebanon police force, Mike had the opportunity to work and teach in each of the schools of the Mt Lebanon School District. This experience provided insights into the structure of our school system, as well as valuable relationships with faculty and students.
Our community has a rich tradition in providing high quality education to our residents. In his years of college teaching, he came to truly appreciate that the school district – and ultimately the school board – play a critical role in ensuring that its graduates are prepared for the post-high school world. In Mt Lebanon, this is achieved by continuing to deliver a rigorous academic experience, providing support and challenges to all students and learning from any mistakes. Mike believes that Mt Lebanon truly prepares students at a level that is significantly higher than most public schools and the schools are a pillar of strength for this community.
